The little night watchman
By Mama Gänseblümchen
Once upon a time there was a little girl who had to pass through a deep, dark forest at night. Luckily she had a slightly older brother who was to be her guide and night watchman, otherwise this journey would have been impossible for her. Thus in the evening they both set off together, the brother holding her tightly by the hand and in the other he carried his small lantern, which illuminated the path sufficiently, for he knew the path well, because he had walked it many times before. They had to go all the way through the deep forest to reach the other side in time for sunrise. The path was long and arduous, but the girl held her brother’s hand tightly and was happy and confident that they would find the right path.
But the night grew ever darker, sometimes the moon was covered by the clouds; the forest became denser and more impassable and she often stumbled over large roots and became more and more tired and exhausted. The dear brother kept helping her up on her feet, encouraged her and kept telling her wonderful stories about the other side of the forest and she gained new courage and bravely moved on. But see, at the very end she had become so tired and discouraged, here at the end of the forest it had become so thick that it was impossible to see where it was going to end, and the little lantern was only a weak little light. She stumbled and bumped into something, she cried from pain and exhaustion and just lay there on the ground. Then the dear brother lovingly picked her up and carried her the last few meters in his strong arms to the other side and they arrived in time and safely for the great dawn awakening at sunrise.
And lo and behold, there were so many other children coming out of the forest, who had also made the arduous journey through the darkness and were all enjoying the wonderful, bright land in the morning awakening, so that they all began to sing a song of praise. They joined hands and praised Abba, their dear Heavenly Father, and now they also recognized who their dear brother and guide had been all along during the arduous journey!
And you know, all of us human children are still in the last meters of darkness, which are always the most difficult; so never let go of the hand of your most loving guide and comforter, because the end is in sight and we will all meet in the light!!!
Into your big golden house
Into your big golden house
I want to come in
and
never get out!!!
Dear God, please do…
No longer:
Dear God,
please do…
rather:
Do it yourself,
dear child of God!!!
Song of the Night Watchmen
- Hear, men, and be told:
our bell has struck ten.
God institutes ten commandments;
give us obedience!
[Refrain]: Human guards are of no use;
God must watch, God must protect.
Lord, by your kindness and power
give us a good night!
-
Hear, men, and be told:
our bell has struck eleven!
Eleven of the disciples remain faithful,
one was betraying. [Refrain] -
Hear, men, and be told:
our bell has struck twelve!
Twelve, that is the goal of time.
Man, consider eternity! [Refrain] -
Hear, men, and be told:
our bell has struck one!
There is only one God in the world
Everything is left to him. [Refrain] -
Listen, men, and be told:
our bell has struck two!
Man has two paths ahead of him.
Lord, teach me the right one! [Refrain] -
Listen, men, and be told:
our bell has struck three!
Three is one, which means divine:
Father, Son and Holy Spirit. [Refrain] -
Listen, men, and be told:
our bell has struck four!
The arable field is four times as large.
Man, what is your heart like? [Refrain] -
All the stars must fade,
and the day will come.
Thank God who gave us the night
guarded so fatherly! [Refrain]
Song: “The little Girl” by John Michael Montgomery
Traces in the sand – Wherever you saw only one trace, there I carried you.
-
Her parents never took the young girl to church
Never spoke of His name, never read her His word
Two non-believers walking lost in this world
Took their baby with them, what a sad little girl -
Her daddy drank all day and mommy did drugs
Never wanted to play or give kisses and hugs
She’d watch the TV and sit there on the couch
While her mom fell asleep and her daddy went out -
And the drinking and the fighting
Just got worse every night
Behind their couch she’d be hiding
Oh what a sad little life! -
And like it always does, the bad just got worse
With every slap and every curse
Until her daddy in a drunk rage one night
Used a gun on her mom and then took his life -
And some people from the city
Took the girl far away
To a new mom and a new dad
Kisses and hugs everyday -
Her first day of Sunday school the teacher walked in
And a small little girl stared at a picture of Him
She said, “I know that Man up there on that cross
I don’t know His name, but I know He got off” -
‘Cause He was there in my old house
And held me close to His side
As I hid there behind our couch
The night that my parents died
